Open Volunteer Positions

Below are a number of exciting new volunteer opportunities! We are always looking for casual volunteers for a variety of BookFest activities but we occasionally require a larger committee role to be filled.

FESTIVAL CO-CORDINATOR/ASSISTANT

Role Description: Assist the Festival Coordinator in all aspects of preparing and running the festival. Keep abreast of all major activities. Brainstorm ideas for the festival with the coordinator. Assist in connecting with other committee members and helping out as necessary. Chair meetings in the event that the festival coordinator is absent. Ideally, this would be someone who is interested in being mentored to be a Co-Coordinator or Coordinator in the future.

Basic skills/abilities required: Very comfortable with email and document creation programs. Excellent communication and people skills. Very organized. Comfortable providing direction to volunteers. A can-do attitude and willingness to help out when and where it is necessary. A commitment to attend our monthly meetings and check emails regularly to stay on top of all of the committee activities.

 

PUBLICITY & PROMOTIONS LEAD

Role Description: Coordinates social media marketing efforts, press releases, traditional advertisements, radio & TV spots, website administration and graphic design for marketing materials. Works with any volunteers that are responsible for those tasks. Brainstorm and implement new promotional opportunities.

Basic skills/abilities required: Experience with social media is necessary. Website admin, online advertising and graphic design experience an asset. Excellent writing skills and creative thinking is essential.

 

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Role Description: Recruit new volunteers as required for committee positions and casual positions for festival day. Place new advertisements, send info to interested parties and help organize & schedule volunteers on festival day. Also responsible for checking in on volunteer satisfaction on an ongoing basis.

Basic skills/abilities required: Excellent organizational skills, a people person and basic email/document creation skills.

 

SUPPORT PERSON FOR SITE LEAD

Role Description: Assists in the booking of venues, rentals, food vendors and entertainment. Helps create site schedule and other documentation for festival day. Helps organize volunteers on festival day. Acts as secondary contact for vendors, and entertainers.

Basic skills/abilities required: Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required. Competent with email and Word/Excel or similar programs. Able to follow up occasionally during business hours with contacts

 

COMMITTEE SUPPORT/ADMIN

Role Description: The Committee Support Position provides administrative support to the different committees when needed. This includes creating documents, compiling information, organizing digital files, taking minutes at our monthly meetings and checking the main email account and forwarding emails to the appropriate people.

Basic skills/abilities required: Experience with word processing and spreadsheet software. Very comfortable with email. Excellent organizational and written communication skills. Experience with Google Drive an asset but not required.
